On October 21, 1978, during a training flight over Bass Strait, an young pilot mysteriously vanished. Shortly before radio contact was lost, Valentich reported seeing an unidentified aircraft with unusual flight characteristics and a green light. Despite extensive searches, no trace of Valentich or his Cessna 182L aircraft was ever found, leading to widespread speculation about UFO involvement.
