Youths using weapons to fight in Alice Springs in daylight

The crime and violence in Alice Springs appears to be escalating with fighting and knife carrying hoodlums now walking the streets in broad daylight.

What is Linda Burney doing about this escalating problem?

  1. 1:30 pm

Massive brawl outside Coles, many weapons in plain site, knives, clubs etc police arriving in force as I was leaving. Did not bother to get out of my car, far too dangerous, shopping will have to wait. What an absolute disgrace

  2. Unhappy business owners

    Double standards in this town.
How would it have looked in NAIDOC week if two pubs in the cbd opposite the council lawns were open with Indigenous patrons?
Ironically and despite the stabbing on the council lawns on Sunday morning, only about 6 hours after the disturbances the night prior, no NAIDOC ceremonies were canceled. The Police were at pains to say that no NAIDOC ceremonies would be cancelled even though all of the incidents involved indigenous people!
Now there are at least ten Police standing watching the smoking ceremony.
Surely instead of strong Indigenous leaders only appearing in public for commemorative ceremonies, they should speak up and act to control the major group of people committing the majority of the crimes?
Nah, just blame alcohol again and attack the supply rather than the demand.
You couldn’t make this up! People interstate wouldn’t believe you!

  3. Yep always someone else’s fault. Never willing to take a look at themselves. That is the aboriginal way.
And when it comes to consequences for their actions, well it’s one rule for them and another for everyone else. This country and government are pathetic.
