Essential trackwork on the New South Wales North Coast railway line will begin across various work sites from Telarah in New South Wales through to Acacia Ridge in Queensland.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out the essential maintenance and improvement work as part of its annual maintenance program.
More than 5,0000 hours of work will be completed from 3am Saturday 3 August to 8pm Monday 5 August. This will include ballasting and re-sleepering, maintenance and upgrading of structures, rerailing and track maintenance, level crossing track works, mud hole removal, and vegetation control.
Disruptions will be kept to a minimum where possible. Light towers will be positioned to shine away from residences, work areas will be watered down, and machine usage will be limited.
Clinton Crump, Acting Group Executive, ARTC Operations, said regular maintenance ensures that the North Coastline continues to operate as a vital part of the economic supply chain. It also provides travel connections to communities throughout New South Wales and southeast Queensland.
“The program of works is designed to minimise disruption to passenger and freight services and ARTC would like to thank the North Coast community for its patience while these critical, long-term improvements take place,” he said.
Coaches and buses will replace NSW TrainLink services during the trackwork period, customers are reminded to remain vigilant to altered traffic conditions near the rail corridor, pay attention to signage and obey all road rules at level crossings, with rail machinery active on rail lines.
