Adelaide Airport’s main terminal has been evacuated following a security breach, causing flight delays and major disruptions as passengers are re-screened.
Airport management said it believed the security breach occurred about 11am, when passengers arriving on a regional flight entered the terminal “without being adequately screened”.
“An orderly evacuation of the terminal has been undertaken and re-screening of passengers will commence shortly,” it said.
The airport said passengers should expect some flight delays, and check with their carrier for the latest information.

Hundreds of people are currently packed into the departure floor waiting to go into security screening.
Re-screening of passengers has begun at the site.
One passenger wrote on social media that they were 20 minutes from departure, but were now expecting a wait of several hours.
“Everyone has to leave for re-screening! Even those on planes about to depart,” the person wrote.

Airport passenger Roy Abraham said he was moments away from boarding when the evacuation began.
“I was probably going to board in about a minute’s time and then this happened so there were probably people already on the plane who had to get off to,” he said.
“All the pilots had to get off the planes as well, so there was probably thousands of people behind me.
“We weren’t really sure what was going on, there was a lot of chatter as you can imagine.”
