CargoBeamer is expanding its Italian rail freight services. By mid-February, it will connect its terminal in Domodossola, Northern Italy, with Bari, Southern Italy. From there, freight can easily continue its journey by sea to Albania, Greece, and Turkey.
The route connecting northern Domodossola and southern Bari will function as a standalone service as well as a gateway connection between German Kaldenkirchen and Bari. The service will be available for craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers, containers, swap bodies, silo- and Frigo trailers and waste transport. The new Domodossola-Bari route will make three roundtrips per week.
CargoBeamer states that the new service allows for an ‘Intermodal Long Bridge’ between Northwest-European ports and Greece, Turkey and Albania. The Kaldenkirchen terminal has quick connections to such ports as Rotterdam and Antwerp, and the Bari port offers maritime connections to Patras and Igoumenitsa in Greece, Albanian Durrës and the cities Yalova and Istanbul in Turkey. Customers can bridge the entire route offered by CargoBeamer with a single booking, including the overseas trip to Patras.
Additionally, CargoBeamer is increasing the frequency of its rail service between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola. The company now offers 20 roundtrips per week. According to the company, this is a European record for the highest frequency of train trips on a single connection between two intermodal terminals.
